ISLAMABAD (AIA) Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal has funded over 1,100 cochlear implant surgeries for hearing-impaired children between January and June 2024, investing a total of Rs. 1.183 billion, according to a report presented in the National Assembly. Each cochlear implant surgery, a transformative procedure using a small electronic device to stimulate the cochlear nerve, costs around Rs. 2.15 million.
The funding organisation has significantly increased its contribution per surgery, from an initial Rs. 1 million to Rs. 9.57 million, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to supporting hearing-impaired children across Pakistan. Through a public-private partnership, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal offers up to Rs. 2.15 million in financial assistance to eligible children under the age of five who need cochlear implants, making the life-changing procedure accessible to more families.
