Hostile elements will not be allowed to destabilise Balochistan: COAS

RAWALPINDI (AIA) Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Monday warned that hostile elements attempting to incite violence, spread fear, and destabilise Balochistan would not be allowed to succeed.
Speaking at the General Headquarters during an interaction with participants of the 15th National Workshop Balochistan, General Munir said foreign-sponsored terrorism remained the gravest threat to Balochistan’s security and development.
“Terrorism knows no religion, sect, or ethnicity and must be confronted with unwavering national unity,” he said, reaffirming Pakistan’s resolve against extremist threats, according to a press release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
He added that terrorist groups acting in the name of Baloch identity to further their insidious agendas were a stain on Baloch honour and patriotism.
Highlighting the government’s continued efforts to improve the province’s socioeconomic landscape, the army chief said the scale and scope of ongoing and planned development initiatives should counteract the disinformation being spread. He noted that many of these projects had already begun delivering benefits to the people of Balochistan.
General Munir also praised the role of civil society in raising awareness, especially among youth, and stressed their contribution to building a prosperous and progressive Balochistan.
He reiterated that Pakistan desired peace within the region and beyond. However, if the country’s sovereignty or territorial integrity were threatened, Pakistan would respond with full force to defend its national honour and ensure the security of its people.
“The Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan will continue their fight against terrorism with the complete support of the people,” he said.
