Balochistan Govt Accelerates Irrigation Projects to Reclaim Barren Land
— August 17, 2025
QUETTA (AIA) The Government of Balochistan has intensified efforts to boost the province’s irrigation infrastructure, aiming to bring vast stretches of barren land under cultivation and ensure sustainable agricultural growth.
Several critical projects are currently underway, including the Bolan Dam, Thangi Dam in Awaran, Sura Khula Dam in Quetta, and Sansrani Dam in Gwadar — all expected to significantly improve the groundwater table and irrigation potential.
In collaboration with the Federal Government, additional major dams such as Gruge Dam (Kharan), Basmol Dam (Gwadar), Windar Dam (Lasbela), and Panjgur Dam are also under construction. These projects are aimed at addressing chronic water shortages and enhancing water security across the province.
Officials say these developments mark a strategic step toward agricultural self-sufficiency, rural development, and long-term economic stability in Balochistan.
