World Teachers’ Day Observed Globally, Honouring Educators’ Vital Role in Shaping Societies

ISLAMABAD (AIA) World Teachers’ Day was celebrated worldwide, including in Pakistan, on Sunday, recognising the pivotal contributions of teachers in guiding future generations and fostering societal development. Established by UNESCO, UNICEF, and other international education bodies in 1994, the annual observance on October 5 underscores educators’ critical role and highlights challenges faced in their profession.
Across Pakistan, the day was marked by ceremonies, messages, and media coverage, with educators, students, and leaders acknowledging teachers’ significance. Education experts emphasised that teachers are instrumental in students’ intellectual, moral, and social growth, thereby influencing nations’ progress. A teacher, they noted, leads students from ignorance to knowledge and equips them with essential skills.
Speaking on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari described teaching as “not just a profession but a sacred duty,” adding that Pakistan’s teachers have consistently been at the forefront of nation-building. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed teachers’ crucial role in national advancement and individual growth, stressing society’s duty to uphold educators’ respect and honour.
Teachers expressed that their greatest reward is student success, while students highlighted that educators impart not only academic knowledge but also vital life values. The observance reflected global recognition of teachers’ services and the importance of addressing their professional challenges to ensure quality education worldwide.
