LONDON (AIA) Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to enhance maritime cooperation to promote regional stability, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Bangladesh’s Adviser for Shipping, Brig. Gen. (R) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hussain, on the sidelines of a maritime conference in London.
Minister Chaudhry proposed a formal cooperation framework between Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation to strengthen bilateral maritime ties.
He also sought Bangladesh’s support for Pakistan’s candidacy in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Category C elections, assuring reciprocal backing.
Reiterating Pakistan’s offer to facilitate Bangladeshi cargo through Karachi Port Trust, he emphasized that closer port-to-port collaboration could streamline logistics, reduce bottlenecks, and unlock new commercial opportunities across South Asia.
