Pakistan and UK Unveil Landmark Green Compact to Boost Climate Resilience
— December 21, 2025
ISLAMABAD (AIA) Pakistan and the United Kingdom have launched the UK-Pakistan Green Compact, a comprehensive climate partnership aimed at enhancing climate resilience, accelerating the clean energy transition, and scaling up nature-based solutions.
The agreement, signed by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and UK Minister for International Development Jennifer Chapman, unlocks £35 million in targeted support for green development and long-term climate action.
The Compact is structured around five core pillars: climate finance and investment, clean energy transition, nature-based solutions, innovation and youth empowerment, and adaptation and resilience. Key initiatives include expanding solar and wind energy, large-scale mangrove restoration, and providing technical support to climate-smart startups.
“Implementation over the next decade will be critical for Pakistan, a country regularly facing floods, heatwaves, and water stress,” said Mohammad Saleem Shaikh, spokesperson for the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
The partnership builds on the UK’s longstanding development cooperation with Pakistan and introduces new mechanisms for private-sector engagement and academic collaboration.
