No Wheat Shortage in Pakistan, Sowing Targets on Track: Food Security Minister

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain has reaffirmed that Pakistan has sufficient wheat stocks to meet national needs for the current food year.
Chairing a meeting of the National Wheat Oversight Committee in Islamabad, he emphasized the need for continued coordination between federal and provincial governments to ensure food security and support farmers.
The Committee reviewed wheat sowing progress for Rabi 2025–26. Punjab reported timely sowing with 90% early coverage and increased use of certified seeds and urea, indicating potential for a bumper crop.
Sindh has already surpassed its sowing targets, while Balochistan’s progress remains slow due to low rainfall expected to improve with upcoming showers. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also reported steady progress, with delays only in snowbound regions.
