Fuel relief: JI calls for permanent solution, lower petroleum levy

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) welcomed the government’s fuel relief measures but called for a permanent solution to key issues, including a reduction in the petroleum levy.

The position was expressed by a JI delegation, led by Liaquat Baloch, during a meeting with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani in Islamabad on Monday.

The delegation was briefed on the petroleum sector, the fuel supply situation and the petroleum pricing mechanism based on a seven-day rolling average.

Malik said the government has ensured uninterrupted fuel supplies across the country during the recent crisis. He said comprehensive measures are being taken to protect consumers and ensure fuel availability.

The petroleum minister said targeted subsidies are being provided to motorcycle, Qingqi rickshaw and small-car users, describing them as an effective way to provide relief to deserving segments of society.

He further said the upgrading of refineries would increase domestic production of Euro-V fuel, petrol and diesel while reducing the country’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products.

Tarar said providing relief to the people is the government’s top priority.
