Aurangzeb stresses accountability in climate finance initiatives

BANGKOK (AIA) Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Vulnerable Twenty (V20) Group’s climate finance agenda, stressing the need for effective implementation of initiatives to help countries tackle climate challenges.

He made the remarks at the 17th V20 Ministerial Dialogue on the sidelines of the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Aurangzeb appreciated the V20’s support in developing Pakistan’s Climate Prosperity Plan and identifying bankable projects to attract climate finance.

He underscored the importance of fiscal responsibility and strengthening domestic and external financial buffers to withstand climate-related challenges and geopolitical shocks.

The finance minister also highlighted opportunities to mobilise green investment, referring to Pakistan’s inaugural green Panda bond.

Welcoming the proposed fund initiative, he stressed the need for collective ownership, accountability and effective implementation.

Aurangzeb cautioned that initiatives must translate into tangible action rather than remain unimplemented, citing the Loss and Damage Fund as an example.
