Aurangzeb discusses financing, investment opportunities with Gulf banks

BANGKOK (AIA) Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to macroeconomic stability and structural reforms during a series of meetings with financial institutions and international development partners in Bangkok, Thailand.

At a meeting with a delegation from Ajman Bank, discussions focused on potential Sukuk issuances, rupee-denominated instruments settled in US dollars and ways to diversify Pakistan’s funding sources. Aurangzeb welcomed the bank’s interest in expanding cooperation and its willingness to provide advice on future financing transactions.

The finance minister also met a delegation from Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank to discuss Pakistan’s economic outlook and investment opportunities.

He highlighted potential investment in refinery upgrades, privatisation, airport outsourcing, electricity transmission and the ML-1 railway project. Aurangzeb also outlined progress under the International Monetary Fund programme, fiscal consolidation, stronger foreign exchange reserves and the government’s commitment to sustainable, export-led growth.

In a separate meeting with United Nations Development Programme Administrator and UN Under-Secretary-General Alexander De Croo, Aurangzeb stressed the need to strengthen implementation capacity so that available financing and policy frameworks could be translated into bankable projects.

He highlighted the private sector’s role in job creation and called for expanding cash-flow-based lending, digital finance and guarantee schemes to improve access to funding for small businesses and farmers.

Aurangzeb also met a delegation from Sharjah Islamic Bank to discuss Pakistan’s economic progress and opportunities to strengthen the financing partnership.

He highlighted improvements in fiscal and external indicators, stronger foreign exchange reserves, credit rating upgrades and progress under the IMF programme.
