— June 25, 2024
KARACHI (AIA) Karachi continues to endure extremely hot and humid weather, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday.
The Met Office reported that the temperature in Karachi is expected to remain between 38°C and 40°C, with humidity levels reaching 76% and no sea breeze to provide relief.
The lowest temperature in the city may fall to 30.5 °C.
A day earlier, the city of lights recorded a “feels like” temperature of 51 °C around 2pm, with partial heatwave conditions persisting throughout the day.
Sardar Sarfaraz, Chief Meteorologist at the PMD, informed the media that Karachi would experience extremely hot and humid weather over the next three days, with the sea breeze remaining blocked, thereby increasing the intensity of heat in the daytime.
Owing to the rising temperature in the city, health experts have advised citizens to consume home-made food and drinks and avoid outside eateries to prevent gastrointestinal problems.
They recommend boiling water before drinking to ensure safety. The use of oral rehydration salt (ORS) can help with salt deficiency, they added.
Furthermore, people are instructed to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, especially from 11am to 3pm, to protect themselves from direct sunlight.
Health experts also suggested that people wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and cover their heads when going outside.
