ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, led by Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, have finalised a comprehensive security plan for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2024.
IG Rizvi stated on Sunday that ICT Police have devised an integrated security strategy to ensure the safety of all participants during the event. Security arrangements have been finalised at key locations, including venues, airports, routes, funnel areas, hotels, and the residences of delegations, with Noor Khan Air Base also under tight surveillance. In addition, an extensive traffic plan has been put in place to minimise disruption for citizens during the summit.
“Search and intelligence-based operations are actively underway to guarantee full security for all foreign heads of state, delegations, and guests,” Rizvi said.
The security strategy involves collaboration between multiple agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, District Administration, Pakistan Army, Rangers, Frontier Corps, provincial police forces, intelligence agencies, traffic police, and the special branch.
According to IG Rizvi, 93% of Islamabad Police’s force—over 9,500 officers and personnel—has been deployed for the summit’s security. “Our goal is to ensure that our international guests feel safe and welcome in Islamabad,” he remarked.
IG Rizvi also called for public cooperation to ensure the smooth running of the summit, noting that it is a matter of national pride for Pakistan and its capital. “With the collaboration of all stakeholders, we are committed to hosting a successful and secure summit,” he added.
