Imran Khan Fails to Make Oxford Chancellor Candidate List
— October 16, 2024
LONDON (AIA) Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and cricket legend, has been ruled out of the race for Oxford University’s chancellorship despite submitting his nomination papers. The university’s official list of eligible candidates, comprising 38 names, did not include Khan.
In a statement, the university administration clarified that the chancellor election committee reviewed all nominations in line with established regulations. For the first time, Oxford opened the process to public nominations, a departure from previous elections where candidates needed endorsements from at least 50 Convocation members.
The election process will begin with the first round of voting on October 28, where voters will rank their preferred candidates. The top five will advance to the second round, scheduled for November 18, with the new chancellor to be announced on November 25.
