98% Recovery Possible with Early Breast Cancer Detection: Experts Stress Annual Screening

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Dr. Ayesha Isani Majeed from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Radiology Department emphasised on Friday that women over 40 should undergo annual mammograms and perform regular breast self-examinations to protect their health. Dr. Ayesha noted that early detection is critical, with recovery rates as high as 98% when breast cancer is caught early, compared to just 27% in advanced stages.
Yearly mammograms, combined with regular self-exams, a healthy lifestyle, a nutritious diet, and exercise, can significantly reduce breast cancer incidence, she said.
In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Serena Hotels held an awareness session for employees, featuring Dr. Ayesha and Dr. Saeeda Yasmin, both leading breast cancer specialists. The session aimed to educate attendees on early detection, diagnosis, and treatment options.
Dr. Ayesha and Dr. Yasmin highlighted the importance of early detection and shared insights on modern mammography, ultrasound, and biopsy options available for breast cancer screening. They underscored the life-saving impact of regular screenings and provided a practical demonstration on performing self-examinations.
Employees engaged with the doctors in consultations and testing opportunities, enhancing the session’s outreach. Speakers also highlighted Serena Hotels’ commitment to employee well-being and health awareness initiatives. The company recognises breast cancer awareness as a crucial issue, impacting the health of both women and men, and is proud to support educational programmes that empower its workforce.
