Pakistan’s Rover to Land on Moon as Part of Chang’e 8 Mission

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced its participation in China’s Chang’e 8 mission, scheduled for 2028, marking a historic milestone for Pakistan’s space programme. SUPARCO will contribute an indigenously developed rover to explore the lunar surface as part of the mission.
The 35-kilogram rover will land on the Moon’s south pole, a region renowned for its challenging terrain and untapped scientific potential. The Chang’e 8 mission is part of the broader International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) project, aimed at fostering international collaboration in space exploration.
SUPARCO’s rover, equipped with cutting-edge scientific instruments, will perform several key experiments, including analysing lunar soil, mapping the surface, and testing innovative technologies critical for sustainable human presence on the Moon.
The collaboration highlights the strong partnership between Pakistan and China and their shared ambitions in advancing space exploration. The mission represents a leap forward for SUPARCO, positioning Pakistan as an emerging player in the global space community.
This venture underscores the importance of international cooperation in achieving groundbreaking scientific discoveries and paves the way for future planetary exploration missions.
