AIOU Hosts 15-Day Training for Religious Translators

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) held a certificate distribution ceremony on Thursday, marking the conclusion of a 15-day training workshop for religious translators.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood was the chief guest, while Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Professor Dr. Shah Mohyuddin Hashmi, presided over the event.
Highlighting the complexities of translation, Dr. Mahmood described it as one of the most challenging disciplines. “Translation is not merely the transfer of words between languages; it encompasses history, culture, and a meticulous attention to detail,” he said. He urged participants to share their newly acquired knowledge and skills with others.
Dr. Hashmi congratulated the participants and assured them of continued opportunities for translators through similar workshops. “The students who attended this workshop will serve as ambassadors of the knowledge they have gained and contribute significantly to its promotion,” he added.
The workshop, a collaborative effort between AIOU’s Department of Islamic Thought, History, and Culture and Jamia al-Mustafa Al-Alamia (Pakistan Chapter), focused on translating religious texts from Arabic and Persian into Urdu. It also aimed to enhance participants’ creative and technical translation skills.
A total of 22 MA-level students participated in the programme, guided by 22 resource persons who trained them in modern translation techniques. The workshop is expected to play a vital role in equipping translators to bridge linguistic, cultural, and historical gaps effectively.
