BEIJING (AIA) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a roundtable investment conference in Guangzhou on Friday, attended by representatives from over 60 leading Chinese companies. The event highlighted opportunities for Chinese investment in key sectors of Punjab, China Economic Net (CEN) reported on Monday.
The conference featured detailed presentations from Chinese firms in health, artificial intelligence, agriculture, information technology, waste management, solar energy, and other sectors.
Maryam Nawaz invited Chinese companies to begin operations in Punjab, assuring them of facilitation through a one-window operation. She provided an overview of Punjab’s economic, geographical, and business potential, emphasising opportunities for collaboration.
She outlined the province’s sustainability efforts, including the Suthra Punjab initiative’s zero-waste mission and a project to convert waste into renewable energy. “We welcome Chinese companies’ support and cooperation in these initiatives,” she said.
Maryam also discussed the province’s “No to Plastic” campaign to protect the environment, which bans the sale, purchase, and production of environmentally harmful plastic.
Highlighting Punjab’s focus on renewable energy, she said, “Mechanisation is being implemented to drive agricultural innovation, and we’re prioritising windmills, solar energy, and other renewable sources to generate affordable electricity.” She noted the increasing demand for solar energy in Punjab and invited Chinese collaboration on a major solarisation project.
Additionally, the chief minister encouraged investment in Punjab’s IT sector, including e-commerce, incubator centres, e-learning platforms, telemedicine technology, and nanotechnology.
