Diplomacy at Sea: Pakistan Navy Visits Kuwait, Iraq

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Pakistan Navy Ships Rasadgar and Azmat recently visited Port Al Shuwaikh, Kuwait, while PMSS Dasht called at Port Umm Qasr, Iraq, during an overseas deployment to the Arabian Gulf. The flotilla was led by Commodore Muhammad Umair, Commander of the 14th Destroyer Squadron, according to a press release from the Directorate General Public Relations (Pakistan Navy).
Upon their arrival, the ships were warmly welcomed by representatives of Pakistan’s embassies and officials from the host navies. The Mission Commander, along with the Commanding Officers, held meetings with senior naval leadership in both Kuwait and Iraq, discussing matters of mutual interest, Navy-to-Navy cooperation, and maritime security. The Mission Commander also conveyed well wishes from Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, to the people and naval forces of the host nations.
After the port calls, the Pakistan Navy and PMSA ships conducted joint passage exercises with Kuwaiti and Iraqi naval vessels. These coordinated manoeuvres aimed to enhance interoperability, promote shared learning, and strengthen maritime partnerships.
The visits are seen as a step forward in bolstering diplomatic ties and fostering cordial relations between Pakistan and its Gulf counterparts.
