— December 25, 2024
ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has announced plans to launch a double-decker sightseeing bus service in Islamabad by January 2025. Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana revealed the initiative during a briefing with tourism industry stakeholders on Wednesday.
Attendees included Naveed Anjum, Manager of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP); Mukhtar Ali, Manager of Tourism Information Centres (TICs); Sadia Nauman, Manager of P&P at PTDC; and representatives from Islamabad’s leading hotels.
Rana explained that the new bus service is a joint venture between PTDC and TDCP, designed to promote tourism in the capital city. The daily service will offer guided tours of Islamabad’s key monuments and tourist attractions, complete with a pick-and-drop facility for visitors staying at major hotels.
“This initiative will provide visitors with a unique way to explore Islamabad while also boosting tourism as a driver of economic growth,” Rana said during his presentation.
The program’s second phase will include weekend tours to surrounding destinations, such as Taxila, Rohtas Fort, Katas Raj, Kallar Kahar, Khewra, Takht-e-Bahi, Murree, Patriata, and Peshawar. PTDC plans to collaborate with the private sector to expand this initiative.
Rana described the eco-friendly double-decker bus service as a landmark project aimed at enhancing Islamabad’s appeal as a tourist destination. He also highlighted PTDC’s integrated tourism plan for Islamabad, which seeks to position the city as the gateway to Pakistan’s tourism sector through public and private sector collaboration.
