Punjab’s Grand Horse and Cattle Show Returns After 30 Years

LAHORE (AIA) After nearly three decades, Punjab is set to revive its historic National Horse and Cattle Show, bringing together local and international participants in a grand celebration of the province’s cultural and agricultural heritage.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the mega event will take place from February 9 to 23 across multiple venues in Lahore. It will feature a diverse range of traditional sports, cultural festivities, and livestock exhibitions.
First held in 1964 and last conducted in 1995, the event is making a much-anticipated comeback with the theme of “Unity, Progress, and Cultural Revival.” A key highlight this year is the participation of 70 international teams, reflecting Punjab’s growing global cultural significance.
The three-day National Horse and Cattle Show, starting on February 10, will provide farmers with a platform to showcase their livestock, agricultural skills, and domestic animals. Rewards and recognition will be given to encourage excellence in the sector. The event will include tent pegging, archery, buzkashi, and polo competitions, along with cultural performances, flower exhibitions, and children’s entertainment activities.
From February 14 to 16, Punjab’s rich musical heritage will take centre stage with special music festivals, while a Sufi festival on February 19 will honour the teachings of the province’s spiritual icons. Traditional Kabaddi matches on February 18 and 19 and a vintage car show on February 16 will further enhance the event’s appeal, drawing spectators from all walks of life.
The chief minister, who called this event ‘a gift to the farmers and people of Punjab,’ will inaugurate the event on February 9. To ensure seamless execution, a steering committee, led by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, has been overseeing preparations for the past four months, with the Pakistan Horticulture Authority (PHA) playing a key role
