Pakistan Rolls Out High-Tech Legal System for Faster, Fairer Justice
— February 21, 2025
ISLAMABAD (AIA) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday launched the Case Assignment and Management System (CAMS) to ensure transparent, efficient, and speedy justice for litigants across the country.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister said the system was long overdue, as litigants and applicants nationwide had been demanding timely and transparent justice. He expressed confidence that this initiative would help address grievances and reduce case backlog.
Sharif lamented that trillions of rupees had been tied up in legal disputes for decades due to corruption, collusion, and a lack of modern technology. He stressed the need for collective efforts to modernise Pakistan’s legal system, compensate for past inefficiencies, and unlock future economic potential.
The prime minister also shared that he had met with the Chief Justice of Pakistan to request expedited, merit-based decisions on pending cases. He reaffirmed his commitment to recovering every rupee owed to the state for the betterment of the people.
The PM expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including international partners, the United Nations, and the Government of Canada, for their financial and technical support in developing the new system.
In his remarks, Troels Vester, Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), praised Pakistan’s efforts to introduce modern technology in governance and commended Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership in justice sector reforms.
On the occasion, Sharif also awarded certificates of appreciation to professionals who contributed to the development of CAMS.
