Ramazan Likely to Begin on March 2, Eid on March 31—SUPARCO
— February 24, 2025
ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has forecast that the new moon will be born on February 28, 2025, at 5:45 p.m. PST.
According to SUPARCO, by sunset on 28 February, the moon’s age will be 12 hours, with an altitude of 5 degrees. Due to its low altitude and distance, the crescent is expected to be difficult to sight.
“The angular distance between the moon and the sun will be 7 degrees, making the crescent invisible to the naked eye,” said a SUPARCO spokesperson.
Based on these observations, the holy month of Ramazan in Pakistan is expected to begin on 2 March 2025.
Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, the crescent may be visible on 28 February, making 1 March 2025 the likely start of Ramazan there.
SUPARCO also predicts that the Shawwal moon will be sighted on 30 March, with Eid-ul-Fitr expected on 31 March 2025.
“The final decision on moon sighting rests with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee,” SUPARCO clarified.”
