ISLAMABAD (AIA) Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture Attaullah Tarar has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to press freedom, calling independent journalism an essential pillar of democracy.
In a congratulatory message on Tuesday to the newly elected office bearers of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Tarar said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government fully supports freedom of expression and a free press.
The minister congratulated Afzal Butt on being elected president, Arshad Ansari as secretary general, Saeed Jan as finance secretary, and all other newly elected PFUJ leaders from across the country.
“The PFUJ has always been a strong voice for journalists’ rights, and the election of these dedicated leaders reflects their commitment to the profession,” Tarar said.
He added that resolving journalists’ issues remains a top priority for the government and expressed hope that PFUJ would continue advocating for media workers while promoting responsible journalism.
