Karachi Fixes Food Prices for Ramazan, Launches Complaint Hotline

KARACHI (AIA) Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi on Friday issued updated price lists for grocery items, beef, and mutton, fixing new rates for Ramazan to stabilise markets and provide relief to citizens.
Shopkeepers and vendors will be required to display the official price lists prominently, with strict action, fines, and potential arrests for violations.
The commissioner has directed deputy commissioners to ensure the availability of essential items at official rates during Ramazan. He instructed them to crack down on profiteers without leniency and ordered the Bureau of Supply to provide subsidised items at utility stores, markets, and bachat bazaars.
According to a handout from the Commissioner’s Office, prices for fruits and vegetables will be updated daily. Market committees have been tasked with ensuring transparent and reasonable pricing.
Naqvi has directed all deputy commissioners to submit daily reports on actions taken against profiteers during Ramazan. He emphasised the need to protect citizens from exploitation and ensure strict enforcement of fixed prices.
The commissioner also urged citizens to report overpricing through the complaint cell at his office. Complaints can be lodged by calling 021-99205634 and 021-99203443. Strict action will be taken against violators.
