Finance Minister Reviews Health, Population Policy for 2025-34
— March 17, 2025
ISLAMABAD (AIA) Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Monday to review the ongoing development of the National Health and Population Policy (NHPP) for 2025-34.
During the meeting, the NHPP team provided an update on the policy’s formulation, which aims to guide Pakistan’s health and population strategies over the next decade.
The delegation emphasised that the policy is being developed with a focus on evidence-based decision-making, prioritising critical health issues while considering the country’s fiscal constraints. Key goals include restructuring the health infrastructure, addressing high population growth, and integrating health and population strategies.
It was noted that leveraging political support to increase public sector financing for healthcare is also a core element of the policy. These measures aim to create a more efficient health system, particularly benefiting vulnerable communities.
The NHPP delegation also presented a series of proposals and recommendations to help achieve these objectives.
Aurangzeb commended the team for their efforts and urged them to submit their recommendations to the Ministry of Finance for further review. He also highlighted the recent signing of a 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with the World Bank, which includes a $20 billion commitment for key development areas such as health, education, climate resilience, and sustainable growth.
He stressed that resource distribution based on population must be examined comprehensively and that the policy should align with international best practices to ensure equitable and effective resource allocation.
