Ahsan Iqbal urges stable policies to boost Pakistan’s exports
— October 14, 2026ISLAMABAD (AIA) Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has stressed the need for policy continuity to achieve sustainable development and strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
He was speaking at the opening session of the 39th Annual Conference of the Pakistan Society of Development Economists, organised by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics in Islamabad today.
Iqbal said the future of a Pakistani export order should not depend on changes in political administrations. He also outlined a roadmap for Pakistan’s ambition to achieve $1 billion in exports, stressing that the country’s economic sovereignty depends on its ability to generate the resources needed to finance development.
He said Pakistan could overcome recurring pressures on its external account by expanding productive capacity and improving competitiveness while maintaining macroeconomic stability.
Iqbal also called for the development of export clusters that bring together producers, specialised suppliers, skilled workers, universities, testing laboratories, financial institutions, logistics providers and international buyers.
