Amendment Bill to Modernise 1898 Criminal Code Tabled in National Assembly

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The National Assembly on Wednesday saw the introduction of the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill 2025, aimed at modernising the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the bill, highlighting 108 proposed amendments designed to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and fairness of the criminal justice system.
Tarar highlighted the need for rigorous discussions during the committee stage to thoroughly review and refine the proposed changes. He called for an inclusive approach to ensure the amendments address key challenges within the system.
The bill has been referred to the relevant parliamentary committees for detailed examination and deliberation before it returns to the House for further debate and potential approval.
