Aurangzeb calls for wider financing access for SMEs, entrepreneurs and housing

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has stressed the need to expand financing opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurs, agriculture and housing.

During a meeting with representatives of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Islamabad, he said greater access to long-term and affordable capital will help unlock private investment, support business expansion and strengthen productive activity.

Aurangzeb appreciated the IFC’s role in developing innovative financing solutions and mobilising private capital across these sectors.

The IFC representatives briefed the finance minister on progress towards establishing a fund for entrepreneurs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. The initiative is aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s entrepreneurial and startup ecosystem.

They also shared an update on the IFC’s affordable housing engagement, which seeks to address supply-side constraints through potential developer-finance models.
