KARACHI (AIA) The 5th International Textile and Leather Exhibition (TEXPO) in Karachi witnessed strong participation from Belgian companies, underscoring the growing trade relationship between Belgium and Pakistan.

Muhammad Bilal Khan, Trade and Investment Attaché at the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, accompanied the Belgian firms, offering support and facilitating their engagement with Pakistani counterparts, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Embassy in Belgium on Thursday.

During a seminar organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) on “Sustainability and the Textile Sector of Pakistan,” Economic Minister Omer Hameed addressed the importance of adhering to sustainability standards within the EU, especially in relation to the textile industry.

Faraz Zaidi, Chargé d’Affaires at the Pakistan Embassy in Brussels, highlighted the significance of Belgian involvement, stating that their participation reflects the strengthening of trade ties between the two nations. “Pakistan’s textile sector offers a range of promising opportunities for foreign companies, and the participation of Belgian firms at TEXPO underscores their commitment to exploring these possibilities,” Mr. Zaidi remarked.

Belgian companies praised TDAP for its organisation of TEXPO 2024, which facilitated numerous business-to-business (B2B) meetings. These interactions are expected to boost bilateral trade between Pakistan and Belgium.

Mr. Zaidi also reiterated the Embassy’s dedication to supporting Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports to Belgium. “We are fully committed to assisting Pakistani exporters as they seek to expand their presence in the Belgian market,” he added.

The 5th International TEXPO serves as a crucial platform for global textile and leather manufacturers, buyers, and investors, providing them with the opportunity to capitalise on Pakistan’s vibrant textile industry, a critical sector of the country’s economy.
