CDA Lays Groundwork for Electric Mobility in the Capital

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced an ambitious plan to transition public and commercial vehicles to electric, aiming to modernise Islamabad’s transport system and reduce its environmental impact.
The initiative was discussed in detail during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Friday. Key CDA officials and representatives from the Islamabad Bus Service were present.
Chairman Randhawa described the move as a pivotal step towards creating a greener and more efficient public transport network in the capital. He directed officials to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including educational institutions, to ensure the seamless implementation of the plan.
“Our focus must remain on reducing the carbon footprint while improving the city’s environmental quality,” said Randhawa.
The meeting also explored potential incentives to speed up the adoption of electric mobility and discussed upgrading the city’s charging infrastructure. As part of the plan, regulations will be introduced to establish electric vehicle charging stations at existing petrol pumps.
Additionally, the CDA is considering incorporating digital advertisements on metro and electric vehicle buses, as well as at their stations. Randhawa noted that these advertisements would not only enhance the visual appeal of the city but also generate a valuable revenue stream, reducing reliance on subsidies.
