— October 1, 2026KARACHI (AIA) Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening and stabilising the national economy through structural reforms, expanding the tax base, giving the private sector a greater role in economic growth and attracting foreign investment.
Addressing a ceremony at the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi, he said the government is taking all possible measures to enable the private sector to drive growth.
Aurangzeb said the national economy is moving in the right direction as a result of the government’s prudent policies, which have also contributed to an increase in the number of taxpayers.
He said the number of tax filers has risen to more than 5.7 million, compared with around 3.9 million a year earlier.
The finance minister said the government is also taking steps to attract investment and expand financing opportunities through initiatives such as the Apna Ghar scheme, under which around Rs60 billion has been disbursed.
