Free Climate Awareness Course to Equip Pakistani Students for a Sustainable Future

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Cambridge University Press & Assessment has launched a new climate literacy programme in Pakistan to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to address climate-related challenges.
Named the Cambridge Climate Quest, this free, two-and-a-half-hour online course is available to learners from all educational boards across Pakistan. The programme focuses on raising climate awareness, encouraging student engagement in sustainability issues, and fostering critical thinking about solutions for a greener future.
Tailored specifically for Pakistan, the course highlights key climate change-induced events such as the 2010 floods, the 2017 heatwave, and Lahore’s ongoing air pollution crisis. It also introduces students to Pakistan’s climate policies, including national flood protection plans.
Uzma Yousuf, Country Director for Pakistan at Cambridge University Press & Assessment and the designated Climate Quest Ambassador, stated, “With Pakistan facing increasing challenges due to climate change, this programme will enable students to understand its local and global impact and inspire them to think practically about solutions. We will collaborate with the government and the Ministry for Climate Change to maximise student access to this resource.”
Rod Smith, Group Managing Director of International Education at Cambridge, emphasised the role of education in combating climate change. “Education is a critical tool, and this bespoke programme for Pakistan equips students to navigate a climate-changed world,” he said.
The initiative aligns with Cambridge’s global efforts to integrate climate education across the curriculum for learners aged 3 to 19. Beyond science and geography, this multidisciplinary approach embeds climate change education into various subjects, fostering values, skills, and attitudes to address the issue effectively.
Cambridge has also created a global community of school leaders to explore best practices for delivering climate education, encouraging greater representation from Pakistani schools in shaping these strategies.
