Govt to Resolve Karachi Port, Port Qasim Issues on Priority

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh on Saturday pledged to resolve the issues faced by exporters at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Port Qasim on a priority basis.
Speaking to the media, the minister highlighted the vast scope of the Maritime Affairs Ministry, which oversees an 1,100-kilometre coastline, fish and seafood exports, and other critical areas.
“We hold an open court during the first week of every month to address matters related to the ministry,” he said. He noted that KPT’s earnings had reached Rs10 billion and emphasised the significant potential in the fisheries sector, where efforts are underway to boost revenue across all domains.
The minister also shared that a joint committee had been formed under the prime minister’s directives to address maritime issues.
Sheikh emphasised the government’s focus on future plans to further develop KPT, prioritising infrastructure over real estate projects. “KPT also contributes to Karachi’s development by building hospitals and roads,” he added.
