Karachi Mayor Orders Crackdown on Public Space Occupation by Drug Addicts

KARACHI (AIA) Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed a citywide crackdown on drug addicts occupying public spaces, following complaints of rising theft and damage to infrastructure. The addicts will be safely shifted to rehabilitation centers after initial detention at city wardens’ headquarters. Dedicated teams have been deployed to ensure a secure and humane process, with a focus on preventing repeat occupancy. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has offered land for large-scale rehabilitation centers as part of a long-term solution.
