Maryam Nawaz Unveils Punjab’s First IT Training Programme for Rural Women

LAHORE (AIA) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the province’s first comprehensive IT and digital skills training programme, aiming to economically empower 27,000 rural women.
Under this initiative, participants will receive scholarships during their six-month online training, along with desktop computers and free Wi-Fi devices upon completion. The Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) will oversee the training, and rural women can apply online from home via the official website (psdf.org.pk).
The programme will cover IT, web development, coding, digital marketing, e-commerce, social media management, graphic design, freelancing, remote work, data entry, office automation, and cybersecurity. Graduates will receive certification and job placement support.
Speaking at the launch, CM Maryam Nawaz said the initiative would help women freelance, establish tech firms, or run online businesses from home, eliminating traditional barriers of distance and mobility.
“Through IT and digital technology, we will economically empower women, enabling them to lead Punjab’s digital revolution,” she said.
The chief minister added that digital education would enhance employment opportunities, promote gender equality, and integrate rural women into the global IT market.
“Technology education will not just be a skill—it will be a tool for rural women to shape their own bright future,” she remarked.
