OIC Welcomes Ceasefire Between Pakistan and India, Urges Peaceful Dialogue

JEDDAH (AIA) The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday welcomed the ceasefire between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of India, praising the countries that played a mediating role in bringing both sides to finalise the agreement.
The OIC called on the international community to intensify its efforts and encourage both Pakistan and India to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, through peaceful means and in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The General Secretariat expressed deep concern over the recent military escalation in the South Asia region, including the unjustified strikes on multiple locations in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It urged maximum restraint and the avoidance of any actions that could further destabilise the region.
It reaffirmed its principled stance in favour of the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly the principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. It also emphasised the importance of adhering to agreements designed to protect civilians, residential areas, and civilian infrastructure, including places of worship.
The OIC reiterated its consistent position advocating a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict to ensure long-term peace and stability in South Asia, warning against the region becoming a flashpoint between two nuclear powers.
