LAHORE (AIA) Around 3,000 Sikh pilgrims from India arrived in Pakistan on Thursday to celebrate the 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Sahib, the founder of Sikhism. The pilgrims were warmly received at the Wagah border by officials, including Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, and the Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs.
Sardar Harjeet Singh Pappa, leading the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee delegation, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by Pakistan. “We feel immense joy visiting Pakistan, which we consider our second home,” he said. The main anniversary celebration is set for November 15 at Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib. The pilgrims will participate in various religious events and are scheduled to return to India on November 23 via the Wagah border.
Saifullah Khokhar, Additional Secretary of Shrines, noted that the government is providing enhanced transport and facilities to ensure a smooth experience for the pilgrims. Sardar Arora highlighted that this significant event underscores Pakistan’s dedication to respecting minority communities and promoting interfaith harmony. The warm reception and comprehensive arrangements reflect the country’s commitment to cultural inclusivity and understanding.
