Pakistan, Japan Sign Agreement for Smart Water Meter Project in Faisalabad

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Pakistan and Japan signed an agreement on Tuesday in Islamabad to install 8,000 smart water meters aimed at improving water supply in Faisalabad.
The agreement was signed by Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Dr Kazim Niaz and Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi, representing their respective governments.
Under the agreement, the Government of Japan has approved a grant of US$3.5 million through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Japanese Economic and Social Development Programme.
The installation of 8,000 smart water meters in Faisalabad is expected to enhance the efficiency of water usage and distribution. It will also contribute to better demand management, the conservation of precious water resources, and the financial sustainability of WASA Faisalabad.
This grant supports Pakistan’s vision for improved urban governance and environmental sustainability. The project is expected to serve as a model for replication in other cities across the country.
