— April 26, 2025
RAWALPINDI (AIA) Pakistan Railways, in collaboration with the Punjab government, will upgrade all train stations from Lahore to Rawalpindi in accordance with international standards.
The decision was taken during a meeting of Pakistan Railways held in Rawalpindi on Friday, with Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi in the chair.
Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb represented the Punjab government at the meeting.
The participants discussed plans to upgrade the Lahore-Islamabad high-speed train service and six other train routes in Punjab.
The meeting was given a detailed briefing on the initiative to reduce the Lahore-Islamabad travel time from four hours to less than three hours.
According to the plan, the Kalula-Pandora section will be restructured, and the track will be dualised, increasing the capacity to 120 trains in each direction.
It was also decided that other necessary measures, such as the reconstruction of all bridges and the remodelling of station yards, would be undertaken.
