Pakistan Seeks Increase in Hajj Quota to 230,000
— January 14, 2026
ISLAMABAD (AIA) Pakistan has formally requested the Saudi government to increase its Hajj quota to 230,000, proportionate to the country’s population, to allow more citizens to undertake the pilgrimage. Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, announced this request, stating that the current quota of 179,210 is insufficient.
The government has received over 450,000 applications for Hajj registration, indicating growing public trust. The allocated quota for 2026 includes 118,000 seats under the government scheme and the rest for private tour operators. Mandatory training sessions are being conducted to ensure pilgrims are aware of Hajj rituals and procedures.
The minister also mentioned that arrangements for Hajj 2026 are being finalized, with the “Route to Makkah” project expanding to Lahore. Over 38,000 pilgrims will travel from Islamabad under this project.
