Pakistan’s First Digital-Only Securities Broker Licensed by SECP

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has granted a licence to Tamkeen Securities (Pvt) Ltd, making it the country’s first fully digital, online-only securities broker. This milestone marks a major step toward modernising Pakistan’s capital markets and expanding access to investment opportunities for both retail and institutional investors, the SECP said in a press release on Tuesday.
The newly licensed brokerage firm will enable investors to open accounts and execute trades entirely online, eliminating the need for physical visits, paperwork, or traditional brokerage channels. This initiative aligns with SECP’s vision of accelerating digital transformation, promoting financial inclusion, and strengthening Pakistan’s capital markets through technological innovation.
With this development, Pakistan joins the ranks of global markets that have successfully implemented fully digital trading platforms, catering to tech-savvy investors and boosting retail participation in the stock market. The digital onboarding and transaction process is expected to attract a broader range of investors, improve stock market liquidity, and enhance investor confidence.
Developing digital intermediaries is a key focus of the SECP. Prior to this, the commission licensed a digital asset management company and a life insurance company under its digital framework. An application for a fully digital non-life insurance provider is also under review. Digital intermediaries offer lower operational costs, wider accessibility, and built-in compliance mechanisms, making them a vital component of financial sector modernisation.
SECP reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s capital markets by introducing technology-driven solutions and ensuring a secure, transparent, and investor-friendly regulatory framework.
