PM Orders Crackdown on Human Trafficking, Urges Immediate Action

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed strict action against human trafficking networks and those deceiving innocent Pakistanis into illegal migration.
Presiding over a meeting in Islamabad, the premier discussed measures to address human trafficking following the tragic deaths of Pakistanis in a boat capsizing incident near Greece. He instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Foreign Office to submit a detailed report on similar incidents involving Pakistanis over the past year.
Expressing frustration over delays in prosecuting human traffickers after the 2023 boat disaster that claimed 262 Pakistani lives, Shehbaz called for action against officers responsible for inaction. He stressed that human trafficking tarnishes Pakistan’s global reputation and emphasised the urgent need for concrete measures to prevent such tragedies.
The prime minister also ordered the immediate implementation of the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) and sought updates on its progress. During the meeting, officials reported that 174 human trafficking cases had been presented in court, resulting in four convictions.
Shehbaz directed authorities to intensify public awareness campaigns and strengthen cooperation with international organisations to prevent future incidents. He underscored the importance of proactive measures to safeguard citizens and restore Pakistan’s image.
