ISLAMABAD (AIA) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed that Pakistan’s shift to a cashless economy is vital for achieving sustainable economic growth, emphasizing the need to raise awareness in rural areas to eliminate the informal sector. Chairing a meeting, he highlighted the government’s steps to transform Pakistan into a digital nation, citing the use of digital wallets for Benazir Income Support Program disbursements during Ramadan as a milestone.
The PM noted that a cashless economy will enhance governance and curb corruption, directing officials to meet defined targets within set timelines. He was briefed on initiatives like QR code payments for utilities, integration of government services with digital platforms, and expanded financial inclusion, which now covers 68% of the population. Sharif urged further expansion of these efforts to align with global digital trends.
