PNS YAMAMA Joins Pakistan Navy’s Defence Arsenal

KARACHI (AIA) The Pakistan Navy celebrated a major achievement on Monday with the induction of its fourth Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), PNS YAMAMA, into its fleet.
The induction ceremony took place at Jinnah Naval Base, Ormara, where Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Naveed Ashraf was the chief guest, according to a press release from the Directorate General Public Relations (Pakistan Navy).
PNS YAMAMA, built at DAMEN Shipyard in Romania, is a versatile platform equipped with advanced stealth technology, modern command and control systems, and sophisticated weapons and sensors. This allows the vessel to operate in a multi-threat environment.
As the fourth vessel in the series, PNS YAMAMA significantly enhances the Pakistan Navy’s capabilities in safeguarding seaward defence, securing Sea Lines of Communication, and maintaining maritime order. Its induction bolsters the Navy’s ability to protect critical national assets, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key project for Pakistan’s future.
Addressing the ceremony, Admiral Ashraf emphasised the challenging geo-strategic landscape in the Indian Ocean and the need for a robust naval force to address both traditional and non-traditional maritime threats. He highlighted that PNS YAMAMA would strengthen the Pakistan Navy’s efforts to protect the country’s maritime boundaries and contribute to regional peace and stability.
The CNS also praised DAMEN Shipyard Galati and the entire project team for their professional competence, which helped deliver a capable vessel that underscores the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and Romania.
The ceremony was attended by numerous government officials, local dignitaries, and senior officers from the Pakistan Navy.
