PTA, FIA Crack Down on Illegal SIM Issuance in Mianwali

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, Lahore, conducted a raid on a cellular company’s franchise in Mianwali as part of its ongoing crackdown on the illegal issuance of SIM cards.
According to a PTA news release, the franchise was found involved in fraudulent SIM issuance. Authorities seized 496 digital fingerprint impressions (single impressions), Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, two scanners, and a laptop. The FIA team confiscated these items as evidence, arrested the franchise owner, and registered a First Information Report (FIR) for further legal action.
The FIA Cyber Crime Circle has launched an investigation to identify additional suspects involved in the illegal activity.
These raids are part of PTA’s broader efforts to prevent the circumvention of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS). The Authority remains committed to eliminating illegal SIM issuance and strengthening security measures within the telecommunication sector.
