ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Islamabad School Meals Programme has emerged as the region’s most cost-efficient initiative, revolutionising the educational experience for underprivileged students. Launched by the Ministry of Federal Education, this initiative provides daily fresh, hot meals to foster cognitive development, improve academic performance, and boost nutritional well-being.
According to the Ministry of Federal Education, approximately 55,000 students across schools in Islamabad benefit from the programme each day.
The ministry allocates Rs 35 per child daily, while Allah Wala Trust contributes Rs 24 per child, managing the logistics. The programme has shown significant improvements in students’ body mass index (BMI), while enhanced nutrition has contributed to better physical health.
Additionally, the free meals have boosted school enrollment and reduced dropout rates, as they attract and retain students. The programme is expected to expand, with a goal of reaching 70,000 students in the coming weeks.
“The Islamabad School Meals Programme is a testament to our commitment to the future generations of Pakistan,” the ministry said in a statement.
