Sialkot: Pakistan’s Export Powerhouse Driving Global Trade

SIALKOT (AIA) Sialkot remains a leading hub for export-orientated industries, playing a crucial role in Pakistan’s economy. Along with Gujranwala and Gujrat, it forms the ‘golden triangle’ of industrialised northern Punjab.
Renowned for its skilled craftsmanship, Sialkot has earned a global reputation for producing high-quality, value-added goods. According to former Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) president Abdul Ghafoor Malik, 99% of the city’s production is exported worldwide, generating over $2.25 billion in annual foreign exchange, significantly strengthening the national exchequer.
Sialkot is globally recognised for manufacturing leather goods, sports equipment, surgical instruments, textiles, musical instruments, cutlery, and military uniform badges. Its footballs, hockey sticks, cricket gear, and boxing gloves are used in international competitions, including the Olympics and World Cups.
Beyond industry, Sialkot’s corporate sector actively contributes to social initiatives through self-help efforts, fostering a culture of community-driven development. Despite challenges such as global competition and technological limitations, the city is making strides in modernising industries, embracing sustainability, and diversifying exports to stay competitive.
A testament to innovation and resilience, Sialkot continues to drive Pakistan’s economy, providing employment opportunities and enhancing the nation’s global trade standing.
