Terrorism Won’t be Tolerated Under the Guise of Protest: Islamabad IG

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi said on Wednesday that non-lethal weapons were used to disperse protestors from D-Chowk and adjoining areas of the federal capital.
Addressing a press conference alongside Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Rizvi disclosed that 954 protestors had been arrested, including 610 on Tuesday. He added that over 200 vehicles were impounded and a range of weapons, including pistols and Kalashnikovs, were seized.
The IG reiterated that terrorism under the guise of protests would not be tolerated, and a search operation to identify offenders is ongoing. He also warned of strict legal action against those responsible for the violence and their facilitators. Rizvi expressed the police’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.
Chief Commissioner Randhawa reaffirmed that no one would be allowed to defy the law or challenge the authority of the state. He commended law enforcement agencies for effectively managing the situation in Islamabad.
Rizvi also announced that data verification of Afghan nationals residing in Islamabad is underway, and only those holding valid No Objection Certificates (NOCs) will be permitted to remain in the federal capital.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding alleged fatalities or severe injuries among protestors. A PIMS spokesperson clarified that during the protest, 66 law enforcement personnel and 36 civilians were treated for minor injuries. Most were discharged after receiving first aid, with only a few admitted for further treatment.
