Tragedy Strikes Karachi: CM Shah Vows Support for Fire Victims

KARACHI (AIA) Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has termed the Gul Plaza fire a “great tragedy” that has shaken the nation. Addressing the Sindh Assembly, Shah announced a comprehensive relief package for affected shop owners, including immediate financial assistance of Rs500,000 and interest-free loans of up to Rs10 million through the Sindh Enterprise Development Fund.
Shah assured that Gul Plaza will be rebuilt within two years, with the same number of shops, and alternative premises have been identified for affected businesses. Rescue efforts continue, with 61 bodies recovered and 15 people still missing. A traders’ committee will assess losses, and DNA testing is underway to identify victims.
The CM emphasized the Sindh government’s commitment to preventing such incidents, with a policy being formulated to enhance fire safety measures.
