Zardari Grants Sentence Reduction for Elderly, Juvenile Prisoners

ISLAMABAD (AIA) President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday approved a 180-day sentence remission for prisoners on the occasions of Pakistan Day (March 23) and Eid-ul-Fitr, exercising his powers under Article 45 of the Constitution.
However, the remission will not apply to prisoners convicted of murder, espionage, anti-state activities, rape, theft, robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, or financial crimes.
The sentence reduction will be applicable to male prisoners aged 65 and above and female prisoners aged 60 and above, provided they have completed at least one-third of their sentences. Juvenile prisoners who have also served one-third of their sentence will be eligible for the remission.
